Continuous updating of science teachers’ knowledge

University Institute for Teacher Training (IUFM) of Corsica
Information and communication technologies speed up the transfer of knowledge acquired through research to the continuous training of teachers and are modifying practical activities in high schools.
In life and earth science subjects, new topics are regularly being introduced into programmes, but remain poorly defined under the terms of the science subject being taught.
Teachers therefore find themselves having to provide answers to students, according to current scientific events, before this new knowledge has even been officially settled. In order to be able to update their own knowledge, they need to have easy access to correct and relevant information in a wider context, as well as to suitable scientific and technical resources

Activities

ACCES has set itself the objective of producing analyses and tools:

  • to identify major developments in scientific knowledge that call for updating teachers’ knowledge; closely linked to this is the identification of tools liable to make this knowledge “teachable”, in particular through modern scientific activities.
  • to define and implement durable systems for the transfer of knowledge; to transfer high level scientific training from a local level to a national shared resource; to develop federative systems between the large research organisations (CNRS, BRGM, etc.) and the public education system; to ensure homogenous resources.
  • to create technological systems that ensure visibility of and access to resources:
implementation of a digital campus for teacher training (‘EscaleS’), contribution to experiments in information sharing and resource sharing tools,
implementation of dynamic Web servers and scientific content.
  • to assess the impact of these tools and approaches.
