ATIEF
Association of Information Technologies for Education and Training
Founder member of ASTI
the French Association for Information Science and
Technologies
"The aim of the Association of Information Technologies for Education
and Training is to promote the teaching, research, training, application
and creation of knowledge in the field of Information and Communication
Technologies applied to Education (TICE) " (extract of the Association's
statutes).
ATIEF
ATIEF was officially registered in November 1998 as an association
which puts on an official footing the pre-existing working group GTIEF.
The group started up the scientific journal Sciences et Techniques Educatives
(STE), which has been published by Hermès. The group has also
organized seminars and conferences : Hypermedia and Learning Conferences
(Journées Hypermédias et Apprentissage), Cachan Conferences
on AI & ED.
The aim of ATIEF is to federate a number of different groups and foster
the synergy between them in order to develop information and communication
technologies and their use for human learning. ATIEF functions as a
learned society and proposes the following:
- to bring together the different competences and skills within the
scientific and user communities (institutions, researchers, trainers,
teachers, developers, etc.) in various domains (didactics, computing,
pedagogy, education, cognitive science, sociology of education, etc.),
around themes of mutual interest (hypermedia, telecommunications, human-machine
interfaces, CSCW, authoring systems, simulation, virtual reality, pedagogical
engineering);
- to work towards the full recognition of this field of research;
- to propose this range of competences and skills to potential partners,
especially the public authorities;
- to contribute to the creation and circulation of knowledge, and especially
to bring it to national and international attention through working
groups, conferences and publications.
- to serve as an interface with the Computing and Education Group of
the IFIP and with AI & ED Society.
As the recent history of information and communication technologies
shows, the various opportunities, resources and local initiatives have
led to the development of a number of associations, inevitably with
a certain amount of overlap, each of which makes its own contribution
to the edifice in the domain. ATIEF confirms its vocation as a willing
partner in this joint effort.
